Methods that work! This workshop includes concrete introductions to basic math facts, fractions, place value, algebraic reasoning, geometry and measurement.

Dyslexia Interpretation and Identification/Report Writing Session – 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
June 22, 2019 – Watauga, Texas

This workshop will be led by an Educational Diagnostician who is also a LDT and CALT with years of experience in assessing and identifying students with dyslexia.  The workshop is intended to guide teachers in their efforts to properly identify students with dyslexia using standardized assessments and information regarding the student’s educational history and background.  This workshop will also provide guidance on effective report writing and participants may bring current testing results for discussion.

(Important note: This workshop does not provide training for identifying dyslexia within the FIE.  Please see separate workshop schedule for diagnosing dyslexia under Special Education guidelines.)

Prerequisite: Training in current dyslexia assessments: WRMT-III, CTOPP-2, GORT-5, etc.

Identifying Dyslexia within the FIE  – 8:30 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.
July 13, 2019 – Watauga, Texas

This workshop is designed for beginning educational diagnosticians or diagnosticians that would like a better understanding of dyslexia and how to identify dyslexia within the FIE under IDEA. The training will include working though the definition and identification of dyslexia according to the TEA Dyslexia Handbook and how that translates to the special education evaluation process under IDEA. This workshop will be presented by a working diagnostician that also has a background in dyslexia.

Audience:  diagnosticians, LSSPs, SLPs

This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test and the Test of Written Spelling.
Audience: Dyslexia Coordinators, dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, and SPED teachers.

CTOPP – 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.
June 26, 2019 – Watauga, Texas

This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the 2013 edition of the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, a test frequently used in the assessment of dyslexia.
Audience: Dyslexia coordinators, dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, and SPED teachers.
3 clock hours credit
Class fee: $60.00  Participant must bring the CTOPP-2 and a blank protocol to the workshop.

GORT – 2:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.

This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Gort-5, a test frequently used in the assessment of dyslexia.

Comprehension Strategies – 8:30 – 11:30 A.M.
June 4, 2019 – Granbury, Texas

Learning with concrete multisensory introductions increases understanding of comprehension terms such as inference, similes, metaphors, idioms, eponyms, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, personification and imagery.  Some concrete introductions for 27 different comprehension terms will be demonstrated during this session.
Audience: Appropriate for elementary and middle school reading and language arts teachers in regular education, special education, dyslexia or RTI instruction.

Direct Instruction of Vocabulary – 8:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M.

A vocabulary workshop that provides instruction in Greek and Latin roots useful for students’ acquisitions and ways to commit these concepts to long term memory.  It will also include ideas for creating necessary lists of academic vocabulary terms students should have and specific games and activities to internalize the vocabulary terms in different subject areas. Discussion on vocabulary research and the importance of vocabulary to comprehension will also be discussed.  This workshop will include hands on activities for the introduction of Greek and Latin roots.
Audience: Appropriate for elementary and middle school reading and language arts teachers in regular education, special education, dyslexia or RTI instruction.

Concrete Multisensory Instruction of Grammar – 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

Empower students to manipulate, control, master and use all areas of spoken and written language more effectively. Participants will receive a complete set of 5 lesson plans for each concept introductioned for the parts of speech. Auditory and visual practices and multisensory sentence building reinforce the introductions. Activities can be done in 5 – 10 minute segments.
