This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test and the Test of Written Spelling.
Audience: Dyslexia Coordinators, dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, and SPED teachers.
5 clock hours credit
Class fee: $120.00  Participants must bring the tests and a blank protocol to the training session.

CTOPP – 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the 2013 edition of the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, a test frequently used in the assessment of dyslexia.
Audience: Dyslexia coordinators, dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, and SPED teachers.

Class fee: $60.00  Participant must bring the CTOPP-2 and a blank protocol to the workshop.

GORT – 2:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.

This workshop will train participants in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Gort-5, a test frequently used in the assessment of dyslexia.
Audience: Dyslexia coordinators, dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, and SPED teachers.

Identifying Dyslexia within the FIE  – 8:30 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.
October 27, 2018 – Watauga, Tx.

This workshop is designed for beginning educational diagnosticians or diagnosticians that would like a better understanding of dyslexia and how to identify dyslexia within the FIE under IDEA. The training will include working though the definition and identification of dyslexia according to the TEA Dyslexia Handbook and how that translates to the special education evaluation process under IDEA. This workshop will be presented by a working diagnostician that also has a background in dyslexia.

Audience:  diagnosticians, LSSPs, SLPs

Comprehension Strategies – 8:30 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.

Strategies to improve metacognition of the comprehension process.  Useful tools for addressing before, during and after reading activities with awareness of the comprehension process.  Teacher preparation ideas including a practicum on effective comprehension guidelines, questioning and summary of the materials, both narrative and expository. Concrete multisensory introductions for inference, antonyms, synonyms, similarities and differences, cause/effect, similes, metaphors, homonyms, idioms, attributes, characteristics, classification, part/whole relationships, categories, proverbs, fables, prediction, traits, eponyms, Rhyme, Alliteration, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia, Personification and Imagery.
Audience: Appropriate for elementary and middle school reading and language arts teachers in regular education, special education, dyslexia or RTI instruction.

Direct Instruction of Vocabulary – 8:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M.

A vocabulary workshop that provides instruction in Greek and Latin roots useful for students’ acquisitions and ways to commit these concepts to long term memory.  It will also include ideas for creating necessary lists of academic vocabulary terms students should have and specific games and activities to internalize the vocabulary terms in different subject areas. Discussion on vocabulary research and the importance of vocabulary to comprehension will also be discussed.  This workshop will include hands on activities for the introduction of Greek and Latin roots.
Audience: Appropriate for elementary and middle school reading and language arts teachers in regular education, special education, dyslexia or RTI instruction.

Concrete Multisensory Instruction of Grammar – 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

Empower students to manipulate, control, master and use all areas of spoken and written language more effectively. Participants will receive a complete set of 5 lesson plans for each concept introductioned for the parts of speech. Auditory and visual practices and multisensory sentence building reinforce the introductions. Activities can be done in 5 – 10 minute segments.
Audience: Appropriate for elementary and middle school reading and language arts teachers in regular education, special education, dyslexia or RTI instruction.

Dysgraphia, Handwriting and Spelling  – 8:30 A.M. – 3:30 P.M.

What is dysgraphia and what can we do about it?  Symptoms. accommodations and treatment will be discussed.  The afternoon session will address how dysgraphia effects spelling,

A Systematic Approach to Phoneme Processing (ASAPP)  – 8:30 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.

A cursory, multisensory course designed to assist struggling students in the acquisition of the sounds of the English language.  Mouth pictures and labels will aid the student in connecting sounds of the language with visual cues of what is happening physically with their mouth in the production of the sounds.  Teaching students to sequence these sounds is a beneficial first step leading to accurate sequential spelling.
Audience: K-2 classroom teachers, ESL teachers or RTI specialists as a stand alone curriculum and is also beneficial for dyslexia practitioners with phoneme awareness and Orton Gillingham curriculums, introduced in grades K-2.

Multisensory Math – 8:30 A.M. – 3:30 A.M.

TEA Dyslexia Process and Dyslexia Identification Workshop  – 8:30 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

An overview of the TEA Dyslexia Handbook with special emphasis on steps for identification, the assessment process and pulling the data together for a comprehensive picture of dyslexia diagnosis.
Also included will be discussion of interpreting scores and analyzing samples of student profiles to determine diagnosis of dyslexia.
Audience: Dyslexia teachers, interventionist, counselors, administrators and private school personnel.
